Testimonials

Choosing a responsible and ethical breeder can feel overwhelming with all the puppy mills out there. Here are all the reasons purchasing a dog from Bonnie (Echo View Dalmatians) was the best decision for me! Her program is ethical, thoughtful, and breed focused. What immediately set her apart was her commitment to true health testing. Not only does she follow OFA standards, but she also provides verifiable links on her website so anyone can confirm results directly through the OFA database. There are no smoke and mirrors, no vague claims. Just transparency and integrity. Her dogs are bred at appropriate ages, and only after passing all required health tests previously mentioned. In addition, she does not overbreed females (e.g. too many litters, too often). After four decades of breeding, she still chooses quality over quantity, producing only one, two carefully planned litters per year. These puppies are raised in home as family members, not as part of a commercial operation. The waitlist is worth it. One of the things I admire most is how deeply she cares about the breed itself, not just making sales. She openly acknowledges that Dalmatians, while wonderful, are not the right fit for every household. Her website includes honest, sometimes deterrent information. Whereas puppy mills claim to have “the perfect puppy for every home.” To be clear, there is not perfect dog breed for every home. She wants families to understand the breed fully for the wellbeing of both the dog and the family bringing them home. Her application process is detailed and thoughtful, designed to ensure the breed is right for you, mitigating the risk of a traumatic experience for the dog and family if surrendered. She also refuses to take deposits until puppies are born, and she intentionally avoids planning litters around peak “gift giving” season, such as Christmas. Every decision is made with the dogs’ best interests in mind. Her dedication does not end at adoption. She guarantees that none of her dogs will ever end up in a shelter. If a family can no longer care for their dog, the contract requires the dog be returned to her. In the years I have known her, I only know of one dog surrendered to her, to which she immediately took in, arranged retraining, and found a new home. Her contact information is added to the dogs’ microchips, so she can be reached in emergencies e.g. death of an owner) Bonnie shows her dogs across Canada, demonstrating their structure, temperament, and adherence to breed standards. This is something backyard breeders and puppy mills would never invest the time or money to do or have the capability to do as unethical breeders have concerning inconsistencies in the dogs they produce. She encourages proper veterinary care, and unlike questionable breeders, she does not void warranties for seeking medical attention. She also does not require buyers to purchase specific foods or supplements to maintain a guarantee. Her priority is the dog’s health, not selling products. What you receive is lifetime support. As a first time Dalmatian owner and brand new dog mom, I had countless questions in those early years. Bonnie always responded quickly, kindly, and with genuine care. She loves updates, too. I regularly send photos of my dog’s adventures and the sports in which we are involved. It is clear she genuinely enjoys seeing her dogs thrive. The community she’s built is just as special. The Canada Dals Be Spotted Facebook group is a warm, welcoming space where Dalmatian owners and littermate families connect, share stories, and support one another. I could not imagine a better breeder or a better start for my dog. Bonnie’s dedication, ethics, and heart shine through in everything she does. If you are looking for a Dalmatian breeder who puts the dogs first, always, this is the one. For more information, refer to the Canadian Kennel Club How to Spot a Responsible Breeder webpage and connect directly with Bonnie. Danielle Brown January 30, 2026

I was lucky enough to have received Arson From Echo View Dalmatians in January 2022. Our correspondence started back in May of 2021. Another Dalmatian Breeder suggested I reach out to Bonnie. Yuri’s words were, ‘I could connect you with a fellow breeder who may be able to help you.” She is absolutely amazing! Bonnie is my mentor….she is the most knowledgeable person that I ever met about Dals. Please, send her a note mentioning that I suggested you talk to her.’ That is how it began. I immediately sent Bonnie an email. When she replied back to me, she attached a pet puppy’s buyer’s guide for my reading pleasure. It was an extremely helpful document. She wanted to make sure people were very aware of the decision they were making regarding obtaining a Dalmatian. There was also a questionnaire and contract/agreement. I filled out all the requested paperwork and returned it to her along with 3 reference letters. There was never any pressure at all. In fact, she often always said at the end of any email correspondence, ‘If you find a puppy elsewhere that’s fine too.” Mid July of 2021 she informed me that she had a chance to read my paperwork and that I could be on the list for a puppy. I also had the opportunity to stop by the ranch that month. It was important to me to meet Bonnie face to face. It was a great visit, and it helped me solidify my desire to have a Dalmatian. She presented a couple of different options to me, purchase a puppy or guardianship. She also provided me with a variety of different individuals that I could contact to ask what their experience had been like dealing with Bonnie. I did reach out to multiple people, and they all had great reviews. Later in August 2021 Bonnie invited me to watch a dog show in Edmonton to see what the show experience was like. It gave me a sense of what I would be signing up for if I decided on the guardianship route. She also connected me to a dog training facility, and I was able to sit in on a conformation class to see what it was like. She provided a lot of options to help me in making an informed decision for myself and there was never any pressure. After careful consideration, meeting Bonnie on three separate occasions, connecting with people who had experiences with Bonnie, after watching a dog show and sitting in on a conformation class I decided that guardianship resonated with me. Once a puppy was available Bonnie sent me the contract. The contract was straightforward, clear, and Bonnie quickly answered any questions I had around it. I knew what I was committing to. I had a lovely experience with Bonnie. She has been incredibly helpful and supportive and has never placed any pressure on me. She said that I could show Arson but if I did not want to someone else would. I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would and together with Bonnie’s guidance and encouragement, we won Arson’s Championship in August 2022. After we achieved that, bonnie said there was zero pressure to keep going if I did not want to. Overall, this has been a wonderful experience for me. I have met some great people, and I would highly recommend Bonnie to anyone looking to add a Dalmatian to their family. Melissa Kortzman June 26, 2023

July 20, 2023 I first encountered Bonnie & John Hetherington while researching what dog breed would fit best in our home with our current dog, a 5-year-old rescue pup named parker. He had plenty of rambunctious energy that needed a canine buddy who could keep up. My research had led me to believe that the Dalmatian would be a great fit and I set forth to find a breeder. After six months of research and recommendations from dog Facebook groups, I found Bonnie. I sent her an email expressing my interest in the breed. She replied the same day with a friendly greeting followed by an absolute mountain of information about Dals. The good, the bad and the ugly. She was honest about their pros and cons which I appreciated . In the package of information, she included her application. It covered all the bases and became quite apparent that this woman not only cared very much for her dogs but was incredibly careful about what homes they went to. She was going to be in town at a dog show in the coming weeks so agreed to meet. We met Bonnie, John and their gaggle of happy spotted dogs in July of 2017. They answered all our questions, introduced us to their dogs and answered all of our questions. They were passionate about the breed and were eager to share their knowledge. Their years of experience, friendly demeanor and army of happy dogs made them an easy choice for me to purchase my first ever dog from a breeder. I sent in a deposit followed by a million more questions which Bonnie answered with kindness and patience, never for a moment making me feel like I was a nuisance or bothering her. After the litter was born, we were invited to visit them at Bonnie’s home in October 2017. We made the drive out to Leslieville to meet the puppies and meet the boy who we were taking home. The terms of the contract were clear and concise, which made signing it an easy decision. When we did bring our puppy home in November of 2017, Bonnie was available for any support we needed as new puppy owners. From food to house breaking to socialization, she was there. She checked in on us often, never hovering or overstepping. When our puppy became ill with parvovirus, she was there to offer any support she cold and was worried sick right along with us. A few years later, I entered into a guardian contract with her with the agreement in place when was to place a show bitch in my home. I would raise, train and show the dog. It was made crystal clear that if I wasn’t cut out for the show world, she would be happy to take over to find someone else in our tight knit dalmatian community to show the dog. It was always maintained that this was something to be enjoyed and she never forced us, bullied us or pushed us. She helped me gain confidence in the partnership I shared with my dog, in and out of the show ring. I never felt anything but an outpouring of love and support. Her and John are my biggest cheer leaders in wins and in losses. As was the same for my pet Dalmatian, she was there to support me and my show dog in every way, even coming to the rescue late one night to help with an emergency vet bill. When it came time for my bitch to be bred, Bonnie ensured I was involved and informed every step of the way. She welcomed me into her home the day my dog delivered her puppies and let me assist with the delivery. I was an anxious wreck watching my dog in labor and Bonnie was cool, calm and collected. My dog was in the absolute best of hands and gave birth to nine healthy puppies, all of whom have almost grown up. I’d recommend these people to anyone looking for a Dalmatian or even an education on ethical dog breeding. I’m eternally grateful I had such wonderful mentors and now consider these people my Family. Sincerely, Jessica Burke

October 2023 Lynne Washington Sherwood Park, AB We first met Bonnie when we were searching for our third Dalmatian and wanted an adult Dal. She helped us find one that needed re-homing. Once we had agreed with the owner that we would take the dog, Bonnie did all the leg work to pick up the dog, assessed him and arranged for us to meet and introduce him to the Dal we had at the time. Bonnie was extremely helpful, informative and gave us great advice. She was always just a phone call away if we had any questions or concerns. From this first encounter, our friendship developed and once again, Bonnie and John were our go-to-people when we were looking for another adult Dal a number of years later. It turned out they were looking to retire one of their Dals and we were fortunate enough to have Nova choose us when we went out to the ranch. Bonnie and John have always been open to us visiting the ranch, meeting the dogs and seeing puppies when they are of the appropriate age for visitors. We have learned so much from them about raising Dals, their potential health issues, training advice and we can see how much they love the Dalmatian breed. We acquired a third adult Dalmatian from them that was a female. The agreement was to take a litter from this girl and it was the most wonderful experience. I was able to go out to the ranch when Kohko whelped and weakly thereafter to see the pups grow and develop. That was so educational and the experience of a lifetime. Bonnie & John are responsible, ethical breeders and are continuing to improve the health of the Dalmatians by breeding LUA (low uric acid) Dals so there are fewer or no more complications from Dalmatians getting urinary stones which can be deadly for the Dal. It also makes it so much easier for the owners in terms of types of food to feed and reduces stress. We have never had any issues dealing with Bonnie & John. They have always been honest and upfront with us; have never pressured, threatened or harassed us. They have supported us in so many ways and continue to be a part of the lives of the Dals we have acquired from them. Yours truly, Lynne Washington
